Youth (Film4)-
Youth is about two elderly people on a vacation together, in an elegant hotel at the foot of the Alps. The entire film is filmed in the same location, this boosts the stereotype that elderly people are marooned, stuck because of physical and financial restrictions. The facility is represented as soulless, more of a lavish prison rather than homey sanatorium. Most elderly people within this film are represented as being sheep, following each other and aimless, the two main characters are however more grounded, able to comprehend the situation and understand they do not have much time left.

From the trailer I can see that the film is very fluid, the soundtrack and character actions match the slow paced editing, this helps show that the main characters are no longer able-bodied. The film also focuses on Michael Caines face, highlighting his age and facial expressions, telling the audience the character is cantankerous and waspish.
The constant close-up of the face would be a nice technique to include within my film as it would show the characters emotions and how he is unaware of his repetitive life but still feeling the emotional effects of an uninteresting, pointless life.
The film also choses to portray the establishment as dull, colourless and boring, desaturation of the colour palette might be a good technique to use in my own film as it would help portray the mood of the film as slightly dreary.
