I have slowly begun to move away from the idea change and further towards focusing on the characters (my granddad) old job, working at sea. All of my filming has some focus on fog or mist, when the character is explaining one of his days in the interview he will specify the fog and go into great detail about it. I am still focusing on memories, just one specific memory, his job.
I need to interview my character again and get him to describe some shots within the film, talking about the subtle movements and how the landscape looks like a painting, because everything is frozen in time.
The fog will be the focus of the interview, the character will talk less about the job and more about the fog, like it was the defining factor of his job, something he remembers vividly.
Descriptions of fog that would work in the interview:

It crept round St. John's church, its silent footsteps tiptoeing around each gravestone in the churchyard
The early morning fog loomed as far as he could see, it was almost tangible, shrouding everything in a thick white veil, the light barely managing to penetrate the haze. The sounds of birdsong and motors that should have been filling the air around him all seemed to have disappeared, even his footsteps had been swallowed by the greedy beast.
